Most babies lose some weight after birth and regain it within about two weeks. When the numbers don’t add up — or your health visitor (védőnő) is concerned — you need someone who can look at both the feeding and the baby.
Signs it’s worth getting help
- Weight loss of more than 7–10% in the first days
- Birth weight not regained by around two weeks
- Gaining less than expected on the growth chart over several weeks
- You’ve been told to switch to formula and want to understand all your options
What we’ll do together
As a pediatrician I examine your baby and look for medical causes; as an IBCLC I assess how feeding works. We use weighed feeds and the WHO growth charts, and agree a plan with clear check-points. If needed, I coordinate with your pediatrician and védőnő — and explain Hungarian growth records in English.
When it can’t wait
Seek care the same day if your baby is lethargic, hard to wake, feeding poorly, has very few wet nappies or seems unwell. In an emergency call 112.
