Some tenderness in the first days is common. Pain that makes you dread the next feed is not something you have to push through. In most cases it is caused by positioning and attachment — and once the cause is found, things usually improve quickly.

Signs it’s worth getting help

  • Pain that continues through the whole feed, or gets worse after the first week
  • Cracked, grazed or bleeding nipples
  • Nipples that turn white, purple or burn after feeds
  • Deep, shooting breast pain
  • Pain while pumping

What we’ll do together

We look for the cause, not just the symptom: latch, positioning, your baby’s oral function, pump fit, skin conditions or vasospasm. I explain what is happening in plain language and help you heal while continuing to feed — or pause safely if you need to, while protecting your milk supply.

When it can’t wait

See a doctor promptly if you have a fever, flu-like symptoms, a red or hot area of the breast that is spreading, or pus. In an emergency call 112.
